How to Buy
How to Buy Our Farm-Fresh Meats
We want to make stocking your freezer with high-quality, pasture-raised meat as easy as possible. Whether you are looking for tonight's dinner or looking to stock up for the season, here is how purchasing and pickup work at Black Jack Farm.
Option 1: Shop Individual Cuts
Perfect for everyday meals, summer grilling, or trying something new. We offer our pasture-raised meats by the individual cut so you can get exactly what you need.
- Browse & Order: Scroll through our current inventory online and add your favorite cuts (like steaks, chops, roasts, or ground meat) to your cart.
- Pay Online: Securely check out online to reserve your cuts.
- Farm Pickup: Once your order is packed, we will send you an email confirmation to coordinate a quick and easy pickup time right here at the farm.
Option 2: Order a Half or Whole Lamb
Buying a half or whole lamb is the most economical way to stock your freezer with premium, pasture-raised lamb. It also allows you to customize how your meat is cut!
- Step 1: Reserve with a Deposit Select a "Half Lamb" or "Whole Lamb" on our website and place your deposit. This secures your animal and lets us get to work coordinating with our local butcher.
- Step 2: Customize Your Cuts Don't worry if you've never ordered bulk meat before! We will walk you through a simple "cut sheet." You get to choose how you want your lamb prepped—whether you prefer leg roasts or leg steaks, bone-in or boneless loin chops, and how much ground lamb or stew meat you’d like.
- Step 3: Final Payment & Pickup Once the butcher has finished custom-cutting and wrapping your order, we will calculate the final balance (based on the hanging weight) and email you your invoice. We’ll then schedule a convenient pickup time for you to collect your boxed, frozen lamb from the farm.
Tips for a Smooth Pickup
Bring Your Coolers: To keep your meat perfectly frozen on the drive home, please bring clean, sturdy coolers or insulated boxes with you on pickup day. Half or Whole lamb orders will be packaged in boxes by the butcher.
How much freezer space do I need for a lamb?
- Half Lamb: Easily fits into a standard refrigerator freezer (takes up about 1 to 1.5 cubic feet of space).
- Whole Lamb: Takes up about 2 to 3 cubic feet of space.
What is "Hanging Weight"?
For our half and whole lambs, pricing is billed by the hanging weight (the weight of the animal after harvest, but before it is trimmed into final cuts). Your final "take-home" weight of packaged meat will be slightly less than the hanging weight once the bone and trim are removed during custom cutting.
